Sunday 27 November 2011, PRETORIA – TSHWANE ITU TRIATHLON AFRICAN CUP was hosted by Triathlon SA at the old Iscor cooling towers!
The venue was beautiful with these hard industrial buildings in the background! Race day was almost perfect, the morning when the half triathlon started was a little chilly but it warmed up to a relatively hot day with a bit of a chill in the wind, perfect race conditions for the RSA athletes.

The day started off with a chill in the air as the age-grouper athletes started their day of racing at 7am. I love watching them race as I train with a lot of the age-groupers and believe it is where the spirit of triathlon lies. They bring back the reasons why we all start triathlon, the love of racing… And that is how I wanted to race this particular race. I had been out for a while and just got back from a dismal last place at World Champs in Beijing, this was my 2nd race since Beijing.

Race day was expected to be hot… And it definitely did not disappoint. A lovely day saw the Elite field start at 8am on Sunday morning at the beautiful Sun City, host of the 2011 11Global Triathlon. The water was warm enough for a non-wetsuit swim and I had a solid swim seeing myself 3rd lady out behind Corrine Berg. The run to the mount line was longer than a normal triathlon and up a hill, which I was able to take advantage of that run, overtaking Corrine and Lucie Reed.
